Wildfire Community Preparedness Day! Event for the whole family!

We have listened to the concerns expressed by our members and the wider community. Recent seasons have been characterized by extreme heat and dryness, with wildfires encroaching closer to home than ever before, such as The Kawarthas, Wollaston Lake/Coe Hill, and Plevna. In Hastings Highlands, we have witnessed alarming incidents, including an unattended campfire at Baptiste Lake that got out of control during a fire ban, a lightning strike igniting a fire at Papineau Lake, and fire lanterns being released into the air at Lake St. Peter during the same ban. It is crucial to recognize that wildfires can occur in our region, prompting us to ask, "Are you and your family prepared for a wildfire?" We invite you to join us for an informative session featuring Ken Cox, MNR Fire Advisor from the Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services Branch, who will share valuable insights. Additionally, Fire Chief Bryce Robinson will provide local information regarding the management of fire risks by our Volunteer Departments throughout the fire season. This event is family-friendly, with activities planned for children with our Library Staff and Fire Volunteers.
